Prolonged Power Outage in Bongaigaon Despite Clear Weather, Residents Left in the Dark
Bongaigaon, Assam | May 29, 2025 — Residents of Bongaigaon faced severe inconvenience on Wednesday evening as power supply was abruptly cut off around 6:30 PM, despite no heavy lightning, thunder, or adverse weather conditions in the area. As of 1:00 AM, electricity had not yet been restored, leaving the locality in darkness for over six hours.
The sudden power outage, reportedly by the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB), has sparked frustration among locals, especially since no official explanation has been provided.
Attempts to reach the ASEB complaint line proved futile as the helpline number was found switched off. A person attending calls at the local ASEB office allegedly stated that they "did not know when the issue would be resolved" and also refused to provide contact information for any senior officials.
Citizens are now appealing to the district administration and higher authorities to take immediate action, ensure timely restoration of power, and investigate the poor communication and unresponsiveness from the concerned department.
This incident raises serious questions about the accountability and preparedness of the power department, especially during the summer season when reliable electricity is critical.
