COCOMI has announced a public boycott of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has announced a public boycott of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, citing his failure to respond to their demands concerning the recent Gwaltabi incident.

The controversy began on May 20, 2025, when security personnel allegedly instructed journalists traveling to the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul district to conceal the word "Manipur" on a state transport bus. This directive led to widespread protests, including a 48-hour state-wide bandh called by COCOMI, which disrupted normal life across several districts.

In response to the incident, Governor Bhalla formed a two-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. However, COCOMI has demanded an apology from the Governor and the resignation of key officials, including the security advisor, DGP, and chief secretary, labeling the act as an affront to the state's cultural and historical identity.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of a planned march or protest at the Governor's residence. However, given the ongoing tensions and the public boycott announced by COCOMI, further demonstrations cannot be ruled out.
