Say Goodbye to FASTag! India Rolls Out New Toll System from May 1, 2025
India is set to revolutionize its toll collection system by replacing FASTag with a new, advanced method starting May 1, 2025. The new system, developed under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aims to reduce congestion and improve efficiency across the country’s highways. Instead of relying on RFID-based FASTag stickers, the upcoming toll collection process will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and GPS-based tracking to identify and charge vehicles seamlessly, eliminating the need to stop at toll booths altogether.
The new system promises a fully automated, barrier-free tolling experience, significantly cutting down travel time and fuel consumption. It will also help authorities monitor traffic movement more effectively and enhance road safety. Vehicle owners are advised to update their vehicle details and link them with the designated payment methods to ensure a smooth transition.
This major shift marks a significant step toward smart infrastructure and digital mobility. As India moves closer to a future of intelligent transport systems, this upgrade is expected to benefit both daily commuters and long-distance travelers across the nation.
