Veteran Actor Manoj Kumar Passes Away at 88, Nation Mourns a Cinematic Legend

New Delhi, April 4, 2025 — Legendary Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, fondly known as 'Bharat Kumar' for his patriotic roles, passed away late last night at the age of 88. He breathed his last at his Mumbai residence after a prolonged illness, family sources confirmed.

Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami in 1937, Manoj Kumar carved a special place in Indian cinema with a career that spanned over four decades. Known for iconic films like Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti, he became synonymous with nationalist cinema during the golden era of Bollywood.

The film fraternity, political leaders, and fans across the globe have poured in tributes, remembering him not only as an actor but also as a visionary director and writer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on social media, calling Kumar “a true patriot whose films ignited national pride in generations.”

His contribution to Indian cinema earned him numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri in 1992 and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

Manoj Kumar is survived by his wife, sons, and grandchildren. His funeral will be held today at 4 PM at the Santacruz Crematorium with full state honors.
