Malda Division RPF Cracks Down on Misuse of Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP), Registers 1393 Cases in FY 2024–25

In a decisive move towards ensuring passenger safety and maintaining the punctuality of train services, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Malda Division has intensified its crackdown on the misuse of the Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP) mechanism. During the financial year 2024–25, the Railway Protection Force registered a total of 1393 cases of unauthorized Alarm Chain Pulling across the division, leading to the arrest of 1345 individuals involved in this unlawful act.

Alarm Chain Pulling without valid reasons not only disrupts train operations but also endangers the safety and convenience of passengers. As a result of the Railway Protection Force’s vigilant enforcement, fines amounting to ₹3,91,950 were realised during the year, reinforcing the seriousness with which such violations are being addressed.

The most affected areas where a majority of ACP cases were registered between Bhagalpur and Nathnagar, Sultanganj and Akhbarnagar, Bariarpur and Sultanganj, Jamalpur and Uren, Jamalpur and Ratanpur, and the Malda to Gour Malda section.

Misuse of the Alarm Chain Pulling system is a punishable offense under Section 141 of the Railway Act, which prescribes a fine of up to ₹1,000, imprisonment up to one year, or both for offenders.

Divisional Railway Manager of Malda, Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, emphasized the importance of responsible behaviour by passengers. He stated, "The ACP system is a critical safety mechanism designed for use in emergencies. Its misuse not only causes operational delays but also poses risks to passenger safety. Malda Division urges all passengers to cooperate with railway authorities and report any suspicious activities to ensure smooth and safe train operations across the network."
