President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrives in India and meets EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar on Thursday

This meeting will help strengthen ties in areas vital to the prosperity and security of India and the EU.

New Delhi: President of the European Commission (EU) Ursula von der Leyen arrived in New Delhi on Thursday (February 27, 2025) for the first visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India. She was warmly received with a special welcome by Minister of State (MoS) for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel at the airport.

Posting on X, MoS wrote: "Delighted to welcome H.E. Ms. Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on behalf of GoI, in New Delhi today. I am sure her official visit to India during February 27-28, 2025 will strengthen the strategic partnership between India & EU across various sectors.Wish her a comfortable & memorable stay in the capital !!"

As she arrived in New Delhi, the President of the European Commission said: "Touchdown in Delhi with my team of Commissioners."

"In an era of conflicts and intense competition, you need trusted friends. For Europe, India is such a friend and a strategic ally", she also said on social media platform X.

She and her Commissioners team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (February 28, 2025).

This meeting will help strengthen ties in areas vital to the prosperity and security of India and the EU.

She also confirmed today in her tweet, "I’ll discuss with @narendramodi how to take our strategic partnership to the next level."

The President of the EU started her India's visit with homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

She called on External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar in Delhi on February 27.

EAM appreciated her thoughts on reenergizing India's engagement with Europe.

"The wide ranging participation of Indian Ministers and EU College of Commissioners during this visit stands testimony to the importance we place on deeper India-EU ties", EAM Jaishankar tweeted.
