Director Indra Kumar said actor Sanjay Kapoor's film prior to 'Raja' was a flop. "When I was watching 'Raja' in Novelty (theatre), the same people who were ridiculing Sanjay for his previous film, were clapping for him on the scene where he slaps Madhuri Dixit," he added. Kumar stated Madhuri and late choreographer Saroj Khan "saved" the film for him.
