London: A sword belonging to Tipu Sultan of Mysore has been auctioned in London for Rs 3.4 crore.
This sword was part of Tipu Sultan's personal armoury.
This sword was gifted by Tipu to the then British Army Captain James Andrew Dick in 1799 after his defeat in the war against the British.
The origin of this sword can be traced back to the Battle of Seringapatam, the 'Steel Talwar' has the characteristic Mysore 'bubri (tiger stripe)' decoration.
Dick, who received the sword as a gift, served as a lieutenant in the 75th Highland Regiment of Foot at Seringapatam.
His regiment helped in the search for Tipu's body after the war.
