Empowering Divyangjan: The Path to Inclusive Economic Growth through Entrepreneurship
The Divyangjan Entrepreneurship Program, organized by the Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association (IDEA), SAKSHAM, and SHREE GURUKUL, took place from October 23 to 29, 2024, at Utkal Bipanna Sahayata Samiti (UBSS), Bhubaneswar. This significant event focused on empowering Persons with Disabilities (PwD)/Divyangjan, contributing to India's aspiration of becoming a developed nation and a $10 trillion economy by 2030. With Divyangjan comprising 2.2% of India’s population, many of whom are unemployed, such initiatives are critical for fostering inclusive economic growth through skill development and entrepreneurship.
The program commenced on October 23 with an inaugural ceremony at 11 am, featuring distinguished dignitaries and participants. The welcome address was delivered by Shri Alok Das, followed by an introduction and welcome to the guests and entrepreneurs by Shri Braja Nayak. Among the notable attendees were:

The event’s highlight was the presence of chief guest Col. Dinesh Kumar Singh (Retd.), a war-wounded veteran and recipient of the wound medal. He served in key operational areas such as Kargil, Manipur, and Jammu & Kashmir during his distinguished 32-year career in the Indian Army. He has been awarded the Army Commander’s Commendation three times for his exceptional service. After retiring, Col. Singh transitioned into the corporate world, serving as the Corporate Head at Tata Power before venturing into entrepreneurship. His journey from a decorated military career to becoming a successful entrepreneur was a source of inspiration for all.
Shri Sanjaya Pradhan provided an insightful program overview, emphasizing the program’s goals to equip Divyangjan with entrepreneurial skills and help them overcome the challenges they face in achieving economic independence. The week-long program included sessions focused on skill development, business strategies, and practical tools for establishing and sustaining successful enterprises.
The involvement of key stakeholders like IDEA and SAKSHAM, along with active participation from government officials, underlines the importance of collective efforts in creating an inclusive economy. Media houses were invited to cover the event and highlight the transformative stories of Divyangjan entrepreneurs, which will raise awareness about the importance of inclusive economic growth and the need for continued support.
