Fire Erodes House in T. Waichong, Lack of Fire Services Raises Concerns
Kangpokpi, Manipur 5th Sept 2024 – At approximately 10:45 AM today, a house belonging to Mangcha Kipgen was completely reduced to ashes due to a sudden fire brokout in T. Waichong Village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. However, the absence of firefighting services in the area has sparked concerns among residents.
T. Waichong, a Sub-Division under Kangpokpi District, suffers from a lack of critical infrastructure such as fire services. The dilapidated condition of the I.T. Road further prevented any timely response from external agencies, leaving the locals to combat the fire on their own.
Despite the valiant efforts of villagers, students, and the public, who managed to save neighboring homes, Mangcha Kipgen's house was completely destroyed. The incident has raised questions about the preparedness of the district and the failure of authorities to provide essential services in remote areas, especially in a Sub-Divisional headquarters.
Residents are now urging the authorities to improve road conditions and establish firefighting services to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
