URS OF HAZRAT BILAL (RA)

URS OF HAZRAT BILAL (RA)

When the time of prayer (salah) would come, our Beloved Prophet ﷺ would ask Hazrat Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) to call for the prayer (adhan) by saying "O Bilal, call for the prayer and give us comfort by it." (Sunan Abu Dawud 4985).

The 20th of Muharram marks the URS (passing away anniversary) of the great companion of our Holy Prophet ﷺ, Hazrat Bilal ibn Rabah al-Habashi (May Allah be pleased with him). He was one of the early reverts to Islam and the first person of known African ancestry to become a Muslim. He had the great honor of being the mu'azzin (caller to the prayer) appointed by our Beloved Prophet ﷺ.

After the passing ahead of our Beloved Prophet ﷺ, Hazrat Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) moved to Damascus, Syria and helped spread Islam in the region.

When Hazrat Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) was approaching his death, his wife cried out "What a painful affliction!" But Hazrat Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) told his wife, "What a happy occasion! Tomorrow I will meet my beloved Muhammad and his Companions."

Hazrat Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) is buried in Bab Al-Saghir cemetery in Damascus, Syria.
