Congress Promises Legal Guarantee for MSP; Slams BJP for Unfulfilled Promises

Imphal: In a recent statement issued by Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary, the Congress party has made a significant pledge to address the long-standing demand of farmers by promising legal assurance for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for various crops. This announcement, made during an event in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, underscores the party's commitment to prioritize the welfare of the farming community.

Highlighting the historical context of the promise, Mukherjee pointed out that the Congress party had earlier resolved in its Raipur Session to provide legal protection for MSP in agriculture. Assuring farmers across the nation, Mukherjee emphasized that this commitment would be a top priority for the INDIA government immediately after the 2024 General Elections.

In a sharp criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mukherjee recalled Modi's pre-2014 election promises regarding MSP, contrasting them with the current administration's actions. Despite Modi's previous assurances to implement MSP based on the recommendations of late MS Swaminathan, the BJP government has failed to fulfill this commitment, leading to mounting discontent among farmers.

Mukherjee highlighted the ongoing protests by farmers and the government's response, condemning the use of force to suppress peaceful demonstrations. He criticized the BJP-led governments for resorting to tactics reminiscent of a "war zone" to deter farmers' movements, including blockades and intimidation tactics.

Furthermore, Mukherjee outlined the economic challenges faced by the country under the BJP government, citing unfulfilled promises such as job creation, doubling farmers' income, and controlling inflation. He criticized the Modi government's handling of key economic policies such as demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), attributing them to the current economic hardships faced by the nation.

The statement also addressed the ongoing unrest in Manipur, highlighting the Modi government's failure to address the situation effectively. Mukherjee emphasized the Congress party's commitment to addressing these issues once in power, promising justice for farmers and resolving conflicts across the country.

In conclusion, Mukherjee expressed confidence that the current challenges would be overcome, emphasizing the impending end of what he termed as the 'Anyaykaal' (era of injustice). He called for unity and resilience among citizens, expressing optimism for a brighter future under the leadership of the Congress party.

The statement underscores the growing political tension ahead of the upcoming General Elections, with both major parties vying for public support by addressing critical issues such as agricultural reforms and economic stability.
