
Jallikattu will be a safe and monitored event in 2024: Dr SK Mittal

Chennai 30/12/2023 Tamilnadu state is gearing up for the safe Jallikattu following Honorable Supreme Court Directions. Matter was discussed in TN State Secretariat in the meeting conveyed by Additional Chief Secretary AH Mr Mangatram Sharma IAS.
Nodal Officer AWBI Jallikattu Monitoring Committee Govt of India Dr SK Mittal, Director AH Mrs Amritha Jothi IAS team of Animal Husbandry officers discussed to reduce deaths and injuries as 362 events in 2023 witnessed 12 human deaths and 8107 minor and major injuries apart from 9 bull deaths. Dr Mittal stressed to restrict the number of events, followup the SOP and Act and Rules, mandatory placing the Bushes on bull horns from their origin point till return, implementation of Transport of animal Rules.
Following the guidelines,No permission shall be accorded in the location in human habitats, narrow streets, near Roads, water pond, Chennal etc.
GO shall be issued atleast 10 days before the event.
Insurance Cover shall be made more effective and the State shall wet and direct a standard cover issuance.
State Jallikattu Bull and Tamers Registration was advised which will restrict huge repetition.
Transport Rules and provision shall be implemented in letter and spirit to avoid cruel transportation.
Tamers and Bull owners need encouragement and winner tamers and Bull owners shall be recognised with some visible state favour like Bus passes and job reservation etc
