CM Basavaraj Bommai has allocated Rs 6,000 crore under the 'Amruth Nagaroththana' scheme for Bengaluru's infrastructure.


Amid big expectations for the capital city, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday, March 4, announced the allocation of Rs 8,409 crore for the comprehensive development of Bengaluru city, in the state budget 2022-23. Bommai, who also holds the finance portfolio, was expected to make big-ticket announcements considering the 2023 Assembly polls and the civic body elections around the corner.

In the last year's budget, Rs 7,795 crore was allocated for the comprehensive development of Bengaluru.

The Chief Minister has allocated Rs 6000 crore under the 'Amruth Nagaroththana' scheme for the city's infrastructure.

CM Bommai said DPR for Phase-3 of Bengaluru Metro will be submitted to the central government at a cost of Rs 11,250 crore. It will cover a 32 km outer ring road from Hebbal to JP Nagar and 13 km between Hosahalli and Kadabagere.

Four corridors of sub-urban railway project running 148 km to be completed by 2026 at a cost of Rs 15,267 crore. "The tender for civil work has been invited for Chikkabanavara - Byappanahalli corridor and work will commence soon," the chief minister said.

Rs 55 crore has been allocated for connecting metro stations with railway stations at Whitefield, KR Puram, Baiyappanahalli, Yeshwanthpura, Jnanabharathi and Yelahanka.

The government has announced the construction of a Grade Separator to reduce traffic congestion in Goraguntepalya by acquiring 1,297 acres of land in Kempegowda development and developing it into a modern smart city.

Bommai said that 'Namma Clinics' on the lines of Delhi's 'Mohalla clinics' will be established in major cities in all wards of Bengaluru. The clinics will aid in detection of non-communicable diseases and of referral for higher treatment to specialists, he said. Bommai also announced 500-bed super specialty hospitals in all four parts of Bengaluru.

Here are the other key allocations for Bengaluru:

-Construction of a skywalk at Banashankari junction at a cost of Rs 45 crore

-Development of Atal Bihari Vajpayee park in 350 acres of land at Jarakabande area of Yelahanka on the model of Lalbagh-Cubbon park

-A grant of Rs 1,500 crore has been earmarked to develop mega-storm water drains to prevent floods

-Development and upgradation of 20 selected schools as "Bengaluru Public School'' after upgrading at a cost of Rs 89 crore

-Rs 404 crore for infrastructure works at Sir M Visveshwaraiah, Banashankari 6th stage and Anjanapura layouts.

-Acquisition of 1,297 acres of land for Kempegowda Layout to be completed soon

-Rejuvenation and modernisation of 20 old wastewater treatment plants situated at various places of Bengaluru city at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore

-Construction of Green Expo in 105 acres of NGEF areas on the lines of Singapore

-Khelo India University Games 2021 to be organized in Bengaluru

Among other announcements, CM Bommai said that temples under the Endowment Department will be given autonomy, as per a long-pending demand. Rs 1,000 crores has been allocated for the completion of the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir and Bengaluru Drinking Water Project. Bommai also said that he will not impose any additional taxes on the common man or increase the sales tax on petrol or diesel.
