CJI Surya Kant Credits Youth for Judiciary's Digital Transformation
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has acknowledged the significant role young lawyers, judicial officers, and legal professionals play in the technological transformation of the Indian judiciary. Speaking at the Oxford Union, he highlighted that the younger generation's adaptability and openness to innovation have been crucial in modernizing the justice delivery system.
Justice Surya Kant pointed to initiatives like e-filing, virtual hearings, digital case management, and AI-assisted legal research as examples of reforms that have enhanced efficiency and accessibility. However, he cautioned against overreliance on artificial intelligence, emphasizing that AI cannot replace the human qualities vital to judicial decision-making such as empathy, ethical judgment, and constitutional reasoning. He stressed the importance of the judiciary’s openness to continuous learning and innovation amid evolving technological challenges.
