FSSAI Imposes Nationwide Ban on Serving Food in Newspapers
India: The practice of serving fried snacks like samosas and pakoras on newspapers at tea stalls, roadside vendors, and small to large hotels, which has been common across the country for many years, is now facing strict government scrutiny. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has imposed a nationwide ban on serving and packaging food items using newspapers.
According to the FSSAI, violators of this new regulation will face legal action, including the possibility of imprisonment. This move aims to enhance food safety standards and protect consumers from health risks associated with using newspapers as food wrappers or plates.
