Mysuru Launches Hasiru Mysuru – Laksha Vruksha Environmental Campaign

Mysuru, June 05: Retired professor Prof. Krishnegowda has called for a shift from development-centric thinking to a model focused on prosperity and environmental sustainability, warning that unchecked development is causing irreversible damage to nature. Speaking at the launch of the “Hasiru Mysuru – Laksha Vruksha Abhiyana” organized by the H.V. Rajeev Friends Circle in association with the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, he said governments often promote projects in the name of development without considering their environmental impact.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Prof. Krishnegowda noted that nature can meet human needs but not human greed. He expressed concern over rising consumerism, excessive dependence on private vehicles, and society's growing obsession with speed, light, and noise. He urged parents to encourage environmentally responsible habits, including greater use of bicycles and public transport. Addressing the gathering, Asianet Suvarna News Editor Ajith Hanumakkanavar said true environmental conservation lies in allowing nature to function without excessive human interference. He stressed that protecting the environment is crucial for humanity's future, as Earth remains the only known habitable planet.

As part of the programme, the Mysuru City Corporation distributed 5,000 saplings to various organizations. Several dignitaries, including religious leaders, environmentalists, former public representatives and social activists, participated in the event. Launched in 2018, the Hasiru Mysuru – Laksha Vruksha Campaign aims to make Mysuru greener and ensure cleaner air for future generations through large-scale tree plantation initiatives.
