Dr Mandeep Kamal Conducts Surprise Inspection of Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur; Reviews ICU and Dengue Ward
Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 1
Dr Mandeep Kamal, Civil Surgeon of Hoshiarpur, carried out a surprise inspection of the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, and conducted a detailed review of the newly established Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the dengue ward. During the visit he assessed the healthcare services being provided to patients, availability of medical facilities, drug supplies, human resources and staff working practices.
Also present during the inspection were Dr Ranjit Singh, District Family Welfare Officer; Dr Jatinder Bhatia, District Health Officer; Dr Kapil Dogra, District Dental Health Officer; Dr Navjot Singh, SMO; Dr Neha Pal, SMO; District Mass Media Officer Tarsem Lal; Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr Aditya Diwan; Ravinder Jassal; and other medical and paramedical staff.
During the tour, Dr Kamal inspected the ICU’s state-of-the-art equipment, including ventilators, multi-parameter monitors, oxygen support systems, infusion pumps and other life-saving facilities. He spoke with the doctors and staff posted in the ICU to gather information on the care being provided to patients.
He said the operationalisation of this modern ICU will provide significant relief for critically ill and vulnerable patients. Patients with cardiac conditions, severe respiratory problems, complicated dengue cases, road-traffic injuries and other emergencies will now receive advanced monitoring and treatment at the district level.
Dr Kamal noted that previously such patients often had to be referred to medical colleges or larger hospitals, resulting in loss of precious time and causing financial and psychological hardship to patients and their families. With the ICU now fully functional, high-quality and specialised care will be available within the district, which is expected to improve treatment outcomes.
He added that while ICUs have been set up in various districts across Punjab, this ICU in Hoshiarpur is among the first to start operations fully equipped with the necessary instruments and trained staff. This marks a significant step towards strengthening the district’s healthcare infrastructure.
During the visit, the Civil Surgeon also interacted with patients admitted to the ICU and their relatives. He sought feedback on the services being provided and assured them that the health department is continuously working to deliver improved treatment and facilities.
Subsequently, Dr Kamal inspected the dengue ward. He reviewed arrangements for dengue patients, bed availability, drug stocks, diagnostic facilities and staff deployment. He directed the concerned officers to ensure all preparations are in place to tackle dengue cases, keeping the approaching monsoon season in mind.
Dr Kamal said the health department is running awareness campaigns and larval survey activities across the district to prevent dengue. He urged residents to prevent water stagnation at their homes and surrounding areas, observe a weekly “dry day”, and regularly clean coolers, plant pots, refrigerator trays, old tyres and other potential mosquito-breeding sites.
He reiterated that the Punjab government and the health department are committed to providing timely, modern and quality healthcare services. The fully functional ICU at Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur will further strengthen the district’s health framework and benefit thousands of patients directly.
In conclusion, the Civil Surgeon urged all medical and paramedical staff to treat patients with sensitivity and compassion, work with a spirit of service, and strive to further improve the quality of healthcare services.
