State Consumer Forum Fines Deputy Superintendent of Land Records Akola
Akola: The State Consumer Grievance Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on Deputy Superintendent of Land Records following a complaint about defective land measurement procedures. The decision was given by Presiding Officer S. K. Kakade and member A. Z. Qazi, highlighting issues in the land survey process under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act, 1966.
The complaint pointed out that the counting sheets lacked clear disclosure regarding boundary differences, encroachments, and area discrepancies despite orders from honorable tehsildars. The commission found that the counting process was completed without detailed technical examination, and formal replies were issued without proper verification even after senior-level complaints. This ruling emphasizes that land survey services, being paid services, qualify for consumer protection and calls for enhanced transparency and accountability in the Land Records Department. The decision has sparked widespread discussion among farmers and landholders across the state, as reported by Dilip Wankhade, Akotkar.
