Pulse Polio Campaign to Be Held from June 28 to July 1 in Mysuru District

Mysuru, May 26: The Pulse Polio immunisation campaign will be conducted across the district from June 28 to July 1, and officials have been instructed to ensure that no child below the age of five is left out of vaccination, said District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Kumaraswamy P.C.. Speaking at the District Immunisation Task Force Coordination Committee meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat mini hall on Monday, he said 1,641 vaccination booths will be opened on June 28 to administer polio drops to children. He urged parents to ensure that all children below five years receive the vaccine even if they had been vaccinated earlier. From June 29 to July 1, health workers will conduct door-to-door visits to identify children who missed the vaccination and administer the doses. According to officials, 2,19,521 children aged between 0 and 5 years have been identified in the district. A total of 6,772 vaccinators and 328 supervisors will be deployed for the campaign.

To ensure no child is deprived of vaccination, authorities have identified 1,396 high-risk areas including locations where migrant labourers, construction workers and brick kiln workers reside. Additionally, 51 mobile teams have been formed to intensify vaccination efforts in such areas. Officials said around 7,78,059 households in the district will be covered during the campaign.

Dr. Siraj Ahmed, RCH Officer, instructed officials to make arrangements for transit booths at tourist destinations including Mysore Palace, Mysore Zoo and Chamundi Hill on June 28. He also stressed the need for awareness programmes among migrant and daily wage labour communities to ensure children receive the vaccine. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Siraj Ahmed noted that the last polio case in India was reported in 2011, after which no fresh cases have been detected. The World Health Organization declared India a polio-free country in 2014. However, since some cases continue to be reported in neighbouring countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Pulse Polio programme is being continued in India as a precautionary measure. He added that during the 2025 Pulse Polio campaign, the district had set a target of vaccinating 2,22,084 children, but successfully covered 2,33,484 children, achieving 105.13 per cent of the target. District Health Department Programme Implementation Officer Dr. Gopinath, Dr. Nagaraj, Dr. Brinda, Dr. Suvarna, Taluk Health Officers Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Puttathayamma, Dr. Eshwar and other officials were present at the meeting.
