Updated on: may 23, 2026 9:26 AM
Delhi: A massive fire broke out at a furniture market near the Seelampur Metro station in northeast Delhi's Shastri Park area on Friday night, engulfing several shops operating mostly under tin sheds. The fire, fueled by inflammable furniture and adhesives, spread rapidly in the congested market. Fire Services received the call at 11:57 pm and initially dispatched six fire tenders, later increasing the number to 25 to control the blaze.

During the firefighting operation, a Delhi Fire Services officer was injured when the tin shed he was standing on collapsed. Fire Station Officer Anoop Singh requested police intervention after members of the public began stone pelting. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Lamba confirmed that police forces were deployed to control the situation, which was managed quickly without injuries. Firefighting continued into the early morning with police presence maintained to ensure order.
