AIIMS Jammu Advances Reconstructive Hand Surgery Services

Jammu: The Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery at AIIMS Jammu continues to provide advanced reconstructive and hand surgery services to patients from Jammu & Kashmir and neighbouring states including Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The department manages complex hand injuries, tendon repairs, congenital hand deformities, post-burn contractures, microsurgical procedures, flap reconstructions, artificial skin substitutes, and skin grafting surgeries with multidisciplinary support from Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR).

Dr Rahul Gorka, Assistant Professor & Officiating Head, highlighted successful treatment of difficult cases including paediatric hand trauma and deformities using advanced reconstructive techniques and microsurgical precision. A recent case involved a four-year-old child with severe post-burn hand contracture deformity, successfully treated with contracture release, digit separation, local flap coverage, multiple Z-plasties, and full-thickness skin grafting under one surgical plan. Prof. Dr. D.N.
