Municipal Corporation Must Immediately Accept Demands of Contract Workers to Restore Urban Services, Says Tikshn Sood

Former cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Tikshn Sood said the citys condition has deteriorated into heaps of garbage and that the summer season has raised the risk of epidemics. He urged the government to resolve the problem immediately.
Sood, accompanied by other senior BJP leaders including former mayor Shiv Sood, councilor Surinder Pal Bhatti, Shiv Kumar Kaku, Yashpal Sharma and Babbu Ajuwalia, visited the old municipal council building today to join and support the strike and sit-in by contract municipal workers employed through contractors and outsourced agencies. They assured the workers of full support.
They also met hundreds of daily-wage sanitation and sewer workers who are holding a strike outside the municipal corporation premises, now in its 13th day, and promised assistance. Councillor Surinder Pal Bhatti and Shiv Sood noted that the benefits the workers receive were granted during previous BJP-Akali governments. Sood said that under his partys rule, policies were made to regularize forest department, local body and several other department employees.
He accused the Aam Aadmi Party of promising regularisation of contract workers before the elections, but failing to act even after four-plus years. He said contract workers employed by contractors, who do more work than permanent staff, receive only Rs 1012 thousand a month, an amount insufficient to meet family expenses. Giving just Rs 1012 thousand for work equivalent to permanent employees is outright injustice, he said.
He added that the AAP government has neither regularised employees as promised, nor reinstated the old pension scheme, implemented pay commission recommendations, or cleared pending DA (dearness allowance) instalments. This government has proven completely false, he said.
Sood warned that the employee class had supported this government because it was promised to meet their demands; now those same workers could become the reason for the governments downfall.
