Citizens Urged to Choose Candidates Wisely in Upcoming Municipal Elections: Rajan Ralhan
Jalandhar / Daljeet Ajnoha/May 15
Awareness campaigns have intensified across Punjab ahead of the forthcoming municipal corporation and municipal council elections, with local social workers urging voters to exercise their franchise responsibly. Speaking in a joint interaction, social activists Rajan Ralhan, D.R. Ralhan, Dheeraj Dheer, Rakesh Rishi and Deepgagan Singh Gill appealed to residents to vote with honesty, prudence and civic-mindedness.
The activists said voting is not merely a right but the greatest power of the people in a democracy. They argued that electing the right candidate lays a strong foundation for the development of a ward, a city and the state. Voters, they said, should rise above inducements, coercion, caste bias and partisanship and select candidates who understand local problems and have the capacity to address them.
Rajan Ralhan emphasised that municipal corporation and council elections directly affect everyday life, noting that sanitation, roads, drainage, street lighting, drinking water and other basic services depend on the performance of local representatives. People should elect candidates who are honest, hardworking and rooted in the community, he said.
D.R. Ralhan said that if a ward progresses in the right direction, the entire city advances, and the state grows stronger through urban development. He urged voters to consider a candidates past performance, social service record and conduct before casting their ballots.
Dheeraj Dheer called on the youth to become politically aware and actively participate in the voting process, noting that an informed electorate is the hallmark of a robust democracy.
Rakesh Rishi described elections as decisions about societys future rather than merely political events, and urged citizens to back candidates who prioritise development and act as voices for the people.
Deepgagan Singh Gill warned against voting based on trivial considerations or personal gain, which can harm entire communities. He appealed to voters to support candidates with clean images and capability for the sake of their children and future generations.
Speaking to social worker and journalist Sanjeev Kumar, the group reiterated that voting is the first and most important link in a functioning democracy. They said that if the public makes the right choices at the outset, long-term development will follow. They urged citizens to cast their votes in the national, social and public interest and to encourage others to do the same.
