Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Additional District Election Officer Nikas Kumar held a key meeting today with officials from various departments to review arrangements for the upcoming municipal elections in the district. The discussions focused on ensuring the electoral process is conducted in a fair, peaceful, and transparent manner.
Nikas Kumar stated that notifications for the general elections to municipal councils have been issued in line with the directives of the Punjab State Election Commission. He informed that polling will take place on May 26 from 8 am to 5 pm, with counting scheduled for May 29.
Directing officials to carry out their election-related duties with utmost seriousness and coordination, Kumar emphasised that compliance with the Election Commission's instructions is their primary responsibility to ensure a smooth process.
The Additional District Election Officer outlined the nomination timeline: candidates can file papers until May 16, scrutiny will occur on May 18, and withdrawals are permitted until May 19.
The meeting extensively covered poll duty assignments, polling staff deployment, security measures, polling station arrangements, availability of election materials, and adherence to the model code of conduct.
Kumar warned that no laxity will be tolerated during the process, urging all officials to fulfill their responsibilities promptly as per the Commission's guidelines.
District Development and Panchayat Officer Sandeep Singh, Deputy CEO Zila Parishad Dhara Kakkar, and other officials were present.
