Veteran Mohun Bagan Administrator Tutu Bose Dies at 78

Kolkata: Veteran football administrator and former Mohun Bagan president Tutu Bose passed away late Tuesday night at the age of 78 following a cardiac arrest. Swapan Sadhan Bose, popularly known as "Tutu Bose," had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in South Kolkata after suffering a heart attack on Monday evening. Despite medical efforts and ventilator support, he died late Tuesday night.

Tutu Bose played a crucial role in shaping Mohun Bagan's modern era, serving as secretary from 1991 to 1995 and president until 2025. His leadership saw landmark moments such as signing Nigerian striker Chima Okorie, the club's first foreign footballer, and securing a historic corporate partnership. Beyond football, Bose was a businessman, newspaper owner, and former Rajya Sabha MP from the Trinamool Congress. He was honoured with the "Mohun Bagan Ratna" award last year in the presence of legends like Sourav Ganguly, Bhaichung Bhutia, and I. M. Vijayan. Condolences have come from across sporting and political spheres following his demise.
