NEW DELHI: (May 12) While the International Big Cat Alliance mandates sharing best practices and knowledge, it will also help countries introduce and reintroduce not only big cats but their prey species as well, a top official said on Monday.
In an interview with PTI Videos, S P Yadav, Director General (DG), International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), cited examples of translocation requests for big cats through the alliance, and said that Cambodia has already sought assistance with tiger reintroduction, and the IBCA, along with the government of India and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), is working on it.
IBCA will help member countries with the introduction and reintroduction of not just big cats but their prey species as well. Apart from Cambodia, Kazakhstan, which recently reintroduced tigers, has also sought support for monitoring and guidance on ensuring its success.
