BMTC Launches AC Vajra Vistara Bus Service to Channapatna, Fulfilling Long-Standing Public Demand

Ramanagara, May 09: In a major relief for thousands of daily commuters, the long-pending demand for a BMTC bus service connecting Bengaluru and Channapatna has finally been fulfilled. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) officially launched its much-awaited Vajra Vistara air-conditioned bus service to Channapatna on Thursday.
Known as the City of Dolls, Channapatna has witnessed increasing daily travel to Bengaluru for employment, education, and business purposes. However, passengers often faced difficulties due to inadequate and untimely KSRTC bus services. Residents and commuters had repeatedly appealed to the government to extend BMTC services to the taluk.
Responding to public demand, the government has now introduced luxury AC buses on the BengaluruChannapatna route, offering commuters a more comfortable and convenient travel option, especially during the summer season.
Earlier, BMTCs Vajra Vistara buses operated only up to Ramanagara. Since Channapatna is located just 12 kilometres from Ramanagara and around 50 kilometres from Bengaluru, there had been strong public demand to extend the service further.
The new service was inaugurated by MLA C P Yogeshwar and D K Suresh. From Thursday onwards, eight luxury AC buses will operate daily between Bengaluru and Channapatna.
According to officials, the buses will make a total of 44 trips every day, ensuring a service frequency of every 30 minutes to one hour. The buses will operate via Ramanagara and Kengeri, benefiting passengers from these areas as well.
BMTC has fixed the ticket fare at Rs 105 for travel between Bengalurus Majestic bus stand and Channapatna. Though slightly costlier than train travel, commuters believe the fare is reasonable considering the comfort, convenience, and time savings offered by the AC buses.
The new service is expected to be a major benefit for employees, students, traders, and other daily travellers commuting between Bengaluru and Channapatna. Authorities have also indicated plans to expand similar services across the Ramanagara district, including Kanakapura, in the future.
The launch of the Vajra Vistara service has been welcomed enthusiastically by the public, marking the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration of the people of Channapatna.
