NCSC Cracks Whip on Tarn Taran SSP & DC; Brahmpura Calls Out Political Vendetta Against Dalits

Tarn Taran May 08, 2026: ( ) In a significant development concerning the arson attack on a Dalit widows house in village Vain Poin (Khadoor Sahib), the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has taken a stern view of the administrative inaction. Following a formal representation and persistent follow-up by Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and former MLA, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, the Commission has issued a final reminder to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tarn Taran, seeking an Action Taken Report within seven days.

In an official statement released to the press, Brahmpura shared documentary evidence revealing that the Commission has sought clarity on the alleged false implication of the victims son, Labh Singh, and the delay in compensating the family. "While many political leaders visited the site for optics, we chose the path of Constitutional recourse to ensure the victim, Dalbir Kaur, receives actual justice," Brahmpura stated. He also highlighted that senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia had previously visited the family to amplify their voice against this high-handedness.

The former MLA pointed out a major legal setback for the local police, noting that the Court of SDJM Khadoor Sahib had already declined police remand for Labh Singh on April 15, 2026, observing that the police's grounds were unsubstantiated. "This judicial observation clearly points towards political vendetta, allegedly orchestrated at the behest of the local MLAs relatives," he added.

Invoking the powers of the Commission, Brahmpura advised the district officials to function within the framework of the law rather than under political influence. "Governments and tenures are transitory, but administrative accountability is permanent. Under Article 338 of the Constitution, the Commission has the powers of a Civil Court. Failure to submit the report within the stipulated 7 days will inevitably lead to personal summons (summons for appearance) in New Delhi," he cautioned.

Brahmpura further urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to rein in local representatives who are allegedly interfering in police functioning. He demanded the immediate release of the innocent youth and the disbursement of compensation as per the norms. - (Press Release Ends) -
