Congress leaders slam Centre over OBC census row in Chabbewal
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnouha/May 6
Leaders of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committees OBC department from Chabbewal, including LDM in-charge Bhupinder Singh, Madam Yamini Gomar, Working Chairperson of the SC department, and Manjit Singh Gambowal, on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against the BJP-led Central government, saying that not providing a separate column for the OBC category in the upcoming census is a direct betrayal of this large community.
They said the Centre was deliberately trying to hide the actual population of backward classes so that the community could be deprived of its rightful constitutional benefits and reservation entitlements.
The leaders further said that without accurate data and caste-based details, no welfare scheme for backward classes can be implemented properly, putting the future of the communitys youth and coming generations at risk.
They added that while the government raises the slogan of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, it is, in fact, afraid to make OBC data public. The absence of a separate OBC column in the census, they claimed, proves that the Centres intentions are not clear and that it wants to limit the participation of backward classes.
They appealed to the people of Chabbewal to remain aware of the issue, saying that it is not merely a political matter but a fight for the rights and future of the coming generations.
Strongly condemning the Centres decision, the leaders warned that if the government does not immediately include a separate column for OBCs in the census, the Congress party will be compelled to launch a mass movement against the alleged injustice.
