J&K Weather Update: Improvement From Today, Rain Likely May 3–5



Srinagar, Apr 30: Weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir are expected to improve from today with partly cloudy skies and isolated light rain, while a fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms is likely between May 3 and 5, the India Meteorological Department said.
According to MeT officials in Srinagar, the UT is likely to witness largely dry weather on May 1 and 2, although brief, isolated showers cannot be ruled out in some areas.
The department has forecast generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at scattered to many places from May 3 to May 5.
From May 6 to 9, weather is expected to remain mostly dry, with chances of brief and isolated showers at a few locations.
Meanwhile, data shows that daytime temperatures across the Kashmir Valley have remained below normal. In Srinagar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.1°C, around 1.9°C below normal, while the minimum settled at 11.7°C.
Other places including Qazigund, Pahalgam and Kupwara also recorded below-normal day temperatures.
Tourist destination Gulmarg recorded a maximum temperature of 13.8°C, while Pahalgam registered 20.2°C.In the Jammu division, Jammu recorded a maximum of 35.7°C, around 3.1°C below normal, while Kathua and Samba reported temperatures above 33°C.
Light rainfall activity was recorded in parts of Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Reasi, Budgam and Anantnag during the past 24 hours.
The MeT department said the prevailing weather pattern may bring temporary relief from heat, though intermittent rainfall activity is expected in phases over the coming days.
