Maulana Farqlita Hussaini reported via telephone from Houston that Maulana Muhammad Hussain Zaidi, son of Maulana Sikandar Hussain Zaidi—belonging to a renowned scholarly family of Lucknow—passed away this morning in San Jose, California.
Maulana Muhammad Hussain Zaidi was a resident of "Mujtahid House" in Ahaata Kamal Jamal, Nehru Cross, Rakabganj, Lucknow. His grandfather, Muhammad Hussain Zaidi, was a truly practicing scholar, an eloquent orator, and a Mujtahid. His father, Maulana Sikandar Hussain, was a cleric in Africa, a scholarly figure, and a skilled physician.
Educational Background
To initiate his early education, his father enrolled him in Madrasa Nazmia during the era of Grand Mufti Ahmed Ali (May his soul rest in peace). Through immense hard work and dedication, he graduated with the degree of Mumtaz-ul-Afazil (First Class). He spent a significant period studying other sciences under Iftikhar-ul-Ulama Maulana Saadat Hussain (May his soul rest in peace). At Madrasa Nazmia, he was known for his brilliance, often passing two academic years' worth of exams in a single year. He also obtained the Sadr-ul-Afazil degree with high marks from Sultan-ul-Madaris.
Alongside his religious studies, he pursued modern English education, completing his High School, Intermediate, B.Sc., and M.Sc. from Lucknow University. He also earned an LL.B. from Aligarh Muslim University.
Professional Career and Global Contributions
Lucknow: He served as a lecturer at Shia Degree College for several years.
Iran: He later served as a Mathematics lecturer at Kerman University.
Kuwait: He earned an LL.M. from London and served as a Legal Advisor for Kuwait Airways.
United States: He eventually moved to New Jersey, USA, where he remained for the rest of his life. He practiced law in New York, where he maintained a law office, while residing permanently in New Jersey.
Throughout his life, he remained actively involved in religious propagation, addressing congregations (Majalis) and explaining Sharia rulings. He was considered a living embodiment of the refined Lucknowi culture (Tehzeeb) and traditional values.
Family and Legacy
He is survived by his wife, two sons (Dr. Zahir Hussain and Dr. Kamal Hussain), and two daughters. He also maintained a personal library at his home comprising books in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral procession will be brought to New Jersey tomorrow or the day after. In accordance with the deceased's will, the final rites will be performed by Hujjat-ul-Islam Maulana Ali Haider Abidi, the Imam-e-Juma of Mahfil-e-Khorasan, New Jersey.
