TREE OF LIFE: INTACH celebrates World Earth Day with National Poster Competition hosted by La Martiniere College

Lucknow, April 22, 2026 — World Earth Day came alive in Lucknow as the INTACH Lucknow Chapter organized the city round of its All-India poster-making competition, “Tree of Life,” hosted by La Martiniere College. Bringing together young minds from Classes 7 to 9, the initiative sought to spark curiosity about India’s rich natural heritage while nurturing creativity and environmental responsibility.

The day began with an engaging Nature and Heritage Trail led by eminent experts Mr. Mohammad Ahsan, former IFS officer and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Uttar Pradesh, and Mr. A. K. Srivastava, former AGM, Railways, and a noted historian of Lucknow. Drawing from his extensive experience, Mr. Ahsan in his talk emphasized the urgent need to protect and conserve the environment, inspiring students to act as custodians of nature.

The nature trail was followed by the poster-making competition which saw enthusiastic participation from leading schools across the city including Seth M. R. Jaipuria School, branches of City Montessori School, Army Public School, Study Hall School, Lucknow Public College, Raj Kumar Academy, Modern Academy, Vidyasthali Kanar Inter College, Jagriti Loreto Vidyalaya, Hoerner College, and La Martiniere College among others.

Around 85 students transformed their ideas into vivid visual narratives, creating on-site posters centred on indigenous trees and shrubs of the region. Their artworks captured intricate details, from leaves and bark to flowers and fruits, illustrating the ecosystems these plants sustain, including birds, animals, and insects. Each poster was complemented by a compelling slogan and a 200-word write-up outlining the plant’s characteristics, uses, ecological importance, and conservation needs, reinforcing the message of environmental sensitivity and responsible citizenship.
