More than 58,000 people have been displaced in Manipur due to ongoing ethnic violence between May 2023 and March 2026, according to data released by the state government through an RTI response. The figures, accessed by applicant Hareshwar Goshwami, reveal that 58,821 individuals were forced to flee their homes, highlighting the scale of the humanitarian crisis.

The Manipur Home Department reported 217 deaths linked to the violence, based on ex-gratia disbursements, while relief operations continue across 174 camps sheltering displaced families. Authorities have also constructed 3,000 pre-fabricated houses through the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd to aid rehabilitation.

Property damage has been significant, with 7,894 houses completely destroyed and 2,646 partially damaged. The conflict, which began in May 2023 between Meitei and Kuki communities, continues to pose serious challenges in terms of displacement, recovery and long-term stability in the state.
