Delimitation and the Integrity of Constituencies: Our Demand.

​The recent delimitation exercise in Assam has raised serious ethical questions. It is widely perceived that the Election Commission, instead of maintaining its neutrality, acted under the influence of the ruling BJP, disregarding constitutional mandates to suit political interests.

​We strongly advocate that future delimitation processes must be conducted by a dedicated and independent 'Delimitation Commission' rather than the Election Commission alone. It is imperative that such an authority upholds the sanctity of the Constitution and focuses on the following.

​✅ Geographical Integrity: Constituencies must be contiguous. The creation of 'Satellite' or 'Fragmented' areas within a constituency, which are physically detached from the main body, must be avoided at all costs.

✅ Population Density: Ensuring a balanced ratio between the geographical area and population density.

✅ Social Ties: Respecting the historical and social bonds between various ethnic communities.

✅ Connectivity: Prioritizing ease of transportation and communication within the constituency boundaries.

✅ Fair Representation: Safeguarding the political representation of every ethnic community.

​Redrawing boundaries for electoral gain undermines democracy. We demand a transparent and impartial process that truly represents the will of the people.
