Corruption Rampant in Punjab as Lokpal Remains Absent /Tikshan Sood
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/April 11
Senior BJP leader and former Cabinet Minister Tikshan Sood, in a press note, has exposed the Punjab government's hollow claims of commitment against corruption. He stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which emerged from Anna Hazare's movement, had made the appointment of a Jan Lokpal one of its key demands to curb widespread corruption in government and administration. It is noteworthy that during that period, fresh scandals from Congress governments at the Centre and in states were surfacing one after another. The public had already issued a verdict against Congress, handing power in Delhi to AAP in the hope of a clean administration.
Sood pointed out that not only has no Lokpal been appointed in Delhi, but contrary to promises of a corruption-free administration, the Punjab government shows no concern about making such an appointment. He noted that the position, vacant since October 8, 2025, has now necessitated a public interest petition in the Hon'ble High Court to force the appointment—a matter of shame for AAP. The High Court has taken strict cognizance, issuing notices to the government.
He added that cases like the suicide of Warehouse Corporation District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa could have been brought before the Lokpal, where government MLAs, ministers, and senior officials are implicated. The absence of a Lokpal has given corrupt politicians and officers free rein, which remains a blot on the Mann government's record.
