TMC vs BJP: Manifesto Battle Heats Up Ahead of West Bengal Elections 2026

Kolkata: As the political temperature rises ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, a sharp contest of ideas has emerged between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. The spotlight is now firmly on their manifestos, with both parties outlining contrasting visions for the state’s future.

The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has unveiled a welfare-driven manifesto aimed at consolidating its support base among women, rural communities, and economically weaker sections. A key highlight is the continuation and expansion of its flagship promise, “Banglar Jonno Didir 10 Protigya”, which forms the backbone of the party’s campaign.

The manifesto emphasizes strengthening social welfare schemes, particularly those focused on women empowerment and financial assistance. It also promises sustained support for farmers and rural Bengal through subsidies and income-support initiatives. Education and healthcare remain central pillars, with commitments to improve delivery systems and expand state-run schemes.

Significantly, the TMC has positioned itself as a defender of Bengal’s cultural identity and federal autonomy, signaling resistance against what it terms “central overreach.” The party has also pledged to continue its existing flagship programs, projecting stability and continuity in governance.

In contrast, the BJP is expected to focus on development, governance reforms, and stronger central-state coordination, setting the stage for a direct ideological clash.

Political analysts believe that this election will not just be a contest of leadership but also of governance models—welfare-centric versus development-driven approaches. With both parties aggressively pitching their agendas, voters in West Bengal are likely to witness a high-stakes electoral battle in the months ahead.

As campaigning gathers momentum, the real test will be how effectively these promises resonate with the electorate on the ground.
