U.S., Iran agree to two-week ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) said he has “suspended the bombing of Iran” for two weeks and will begin talks with Tehran based on its 10-point proposal, provided Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the ceasefire, but said it doesn’t cover Lebanon. “The United States has told Israel that it is committed to achieving goals, shared by the U.S., Israel and Israel’s regional allies, in the upcoming negotiations,” Mr. Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. “The two-weeks ceasefire does not include Lebanon.”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the country has dealt a “historic and crushing defeat” to the U.S. and Israel, adding that Washington was forced to accept its 10-point proposal.
