RLD Leader Mohammad Anees Choudhary Demands Immediate Regularization of J&K’s Daily Wagers and Casual Labor; Calls for Justice Before More Lives Are Lost
JAMMU/SRINAGAR — Mohammad Anees Choudhary, General Secretary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jammu and Kashmir unit, issued a stinging critique of the government's delay in regularizing the services of Daily Wagers, Ad-hoc workers, Casual Labor, and SPOs across various departments in the Union Territory.
In a powerful statement, Mr. Choudhary highlighted the tragic human cost of the decades-long wait for job security. He noted that while the government continues to deliberate and form committees, many of these "frontline" workers have reached the age of retirement with nothing to show for their service, and many others have tragically passed away, leaving their families in financial ruin.
"It is a matter of profound shame that those who have given their sweat and blood to build and maintain the infrastructure of Jammu and Kashmir are being treated as disposable commodities," said Mohammad Anees Choudhary. "We have seen workers retire after 30 years of service without a single benefit. We have seen families shattered because the breadwinner died while still waiting for the 'Permanent' tag. How many more deaths will it take for the administration to wake up?"
Key Demands raised by the RLD J&K General Secretary:
Immediate Regularization: A clear, time-bound roadmap for the permanent absorption of all Daily Wagers, Casual Laborers, and Ad-hoc employees.
Justice for SPOs: Recognition of the service of Special Police Officers (SPOs) who risk their lives daily, through a formal regularization policy.
Family Pensions & Compensation: Immediate financial assistance and job quotas for the families of those workers who died in the line of duty or during their service period.
Implementation of Minimum Wage Act: Ensuring all temporary staff receive fair wages in accordance with current inflation rates until the regularization process is complete.
Mr. Choudhary reminded the current administration of the recent promises made in the Legislative Assembly regarding a phased regularization process starting in 2026. He warned that the RLD will not accept "mere hollow promises" and will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the workers if a concrete order is not issued soon.
"The time for committees and paperwork is over. These workers don't need sympathy; they need their rights. We demand that the government stops testing their patience and grants them the permanent status they have earned through decades of hardship," the statement concluded.
