Renowned international karate coach and World Karate Federation (WKF) referee A Sensei Jagmohan Vij from Punjab had the honour of representing India as an official at the prestigious WKF Karate1 Series A, held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The event was organised by the World Karate Federation in collaboration with the Georgian Karate Federation and marked the first WKF event of the year.

For this prestigious international championship, the Karate India Organisation (KIO), President Shihan Bharat Sharma, selected three referees from India to officiate at the event: Jagmohan Vij (Punjab), Jitesh Nair (Mumbai, Maharashtra), and Vijay Kumar Dugru (Hyderabad, Telangana).

The three-day championship witnessed participation from approximately 925 elite karate athletes representing 71 countries, making it one of the most competitive events in the WKF calendar.

Before the start of the championship, Javier Escalante, Chairman of the WKF Referee Commission, conducted an official briefing for all referees regarding the new WKF rules and regulations for 2026, ensuring uniform officiating standards at the global level.

During the competition on Tatami No. 2, Sensei Jagmohan Vij officiated under the supervision and guidance of distinguished WKF officials including Haitham Farouk (Egypt), member of the WKF Referee Commission; Gideon Schwabe (Israel), senior member of the competition Appeals Jury, Olympic referee Darko Zaric (Slovakia), Yuki Abe ( Japan) and Rovshen Saryyev from Turkmenistan

Throughout the tournament, Jagmohan Vij performed several important officiating roles including Score Supervisor Kansa Assistant, Kata Judge, Kumite Judge, Referee, Match Supervisor (Kansa), and Video Review Supervisor (Judge), demonstrating his expertise and professionalism on the international stage.

It is noteworthy that Jagmohan Vij is the only WKF referee from North and Central India to have officiated at multiple prestigious WKF events, including three Karate Premier League tournaments (Dubai, Fujairah, and Cairo), four World Karate Championships (UAE, Turkey, Italy, and France), WKF Series A (Georgia), and World Youth League events in Fujairah (UAE) and Cancun (Mexico).

Through his continued presence at the highest level of international karate officiating, Sensei Jagmohan Vij has consistently brought pride to Punjab and India, further strengthening the country’s reputation in the global karate community.
