Major Demand by AIMIM (Inquilab): Call for Political Reservation for Minorities

Major Demand by AIMIM (Inquilab): Call for Political Reservation for Minorities
Hyderabad: The National Working President of AIMIM (Inquilab), Abdul Majid Attar, has made a significant appeal to the Government of India and the Supreme Court. He emphasized that minorities in the country, particularly Muslims, should be granted reserved seats in Parliament and State Assemblies in proportion to their population.
Reference to the Constitution of India
In his demand, Abdul Majid Attar cited two crucial articles of the Indian Constitution. The legal significance of these sections is as follows:
* Article 330: This article provides for the reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Lok Sabha (Parliament).
* Article 332: This article guarantees the reservation of seats for SCs and STs in the State Legislative Assemblies (Vidhan Sabha).
A Call for Legislative Action
Abdul Majid Attar demanded that the government must enact special legislation to provide political reservation for Muslims, similar to the protections afforded to other marginalized groups. He stressed that direct representation in:
* Local Bodies (Corporations and Panchayats),
* State Assemblies,
* and the Parliament (Lok Sabha),
is the need of the hour for the empowerment of the community.
A Question on National Progress
At the conclusion of his statement, he raised a critical question regarding the future of the nation:
> "If Muslims are not provided with adequate political protection and representation, can the country truly progress together as a whole?"
>
He believes that as long as a significant segment of the population remains outside the legislative process, the fruits of national development cannot reach everyone.
