"Resignation Not Enough, Arrest Laljit Bhullar": SAD's Peermohammed Slams AAP Govt, Demands CBI Probe in PSWC Officer's Suicide

Chandigarh March 22, 2026: ( ) Rejecting the recent resignation of Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar as a mere "face-saving drama," Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) Chief Spokesperson Karnail Singh Peermohammed has demanded his immediate arrest in the tragic suicide case of PSWC District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.

Addressing the media on Sunday, Peermohammed slammed the ruling Aam Aadmi party government for attempting to shield the former minister, who is known to be a close confidant of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He highlighted that despite FIR No. 52 being registered late at night at the Ranjit Avenue Police Station under the Amritsar Police Commissionerate, the state machinery remains paralyzed, forcing the grieving family and the opposition to stage massive protests demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.

Detailing the contents of the police complaint, Peermohammed pointed out that Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and his PA Dilbagh Singh alias Baga have been booked under stringent sections of the BNS 2023, specifically Section 108 (abetment of suicide), Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and Section 3(5) (common intention). Terming the incident a "political murder," the SAD leader stated that the victim was relentlessly harassed to illegally allot godown tenders to the minister's father. According to the FIR based on the statement of the victim's wife, the breaking point occurred on March 13 when Bhullar allegedly summoned the honest officer to his Patti residence, brutally assaulted him, and placed a pistol to his head. Extorting a false video confession at gunpoint and threatening to wipe out his entire family, this horrific mental torture drove Gagandeep to consume Celphos pills on March 21.

Questioning Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s accountability for harboring such individuals in his cabinet, Peermohammed stated that simply accepting a resignation does not absolve the government of this heinous crime. Expressing zero faith in the Punjab Police or the state administration to conduct a fair probe against highly influential political figures, the SAD leader demanded a time-bound, independent investigation by the CBI or a sitting High Court judge. He issued a stern ultimatum that if the accused are not put behind bars immediately, SAD (Punar Surjeet) and allied opposition parties will intensify a state-wide agitation to ensure justice and protect the dignity of every honest civil servant in Punjab.
