Water security, gender equality one civilisational commitment: Union minister

NEW DELHI: (Mar 18) Water security, gender equality and community participation must go hand in hand for India to achieve sustainable development and its 2047 vision, policymakers and experts said at a national seminar held here ahead of World Water Day.

The seminar on "Water, Gender and Climate", organised at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia, brought together senior government officials, scientists and diplomats, who flagged growing water stress, declining per capita availability and the disproportionate burden on women.

Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, said water access has a direct link to women's empowerment.
