Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (March 10) ceremonially inaugurated the Science City in Sonapur near Guwahati.

It has been built with the joint efforts of the Assam Government and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).

The facility features two major galleries, Eureka and Space Odyssey, with Science Discovery and a Science Park set to be added soon.

The state-of-the-art Science City facility features immersive attractions like Digital Adventure, Virtual Reality, Fun with Science exhibits, an Astronomy Gallery, a Globe of Knowledge and a Fire Theatre, making science engaging and accessible for all.

"Assam gets its own Science City and it will be one of the best in the country. Built on the outskirts of Guwahati, this project, spread over 82 acres has been built at Rs 300 crore and has features like Eureka and Space Odyssey etc and is bigger than Kolkata's Science City," CM Sarma said in a post on X.

"But this is not just it, more features like Science Innovation and Science Park will also come up shortly in the premises which will draw more young minds towards scientific thinking. In Assam, we are building things which feature as ones which are best in the country," he added.

On the same occasion, CM Sarma also virtually inaugurated five District Science Centres in Amin Gaon, Majuli, Silchar, Kaliabor and Bongaigaon, equipped with science galleries, digital planetariums and auditoriums.
