Beware of Mobile Phone Thieves – Cyberabad Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh

Cyberabad Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh said that while modern technology has many benefits, it also has many disadvantages. He stated that since mobile phones have become a part of everyone’s daily necessities, people should use them carefully; otherwise, they may have to face many losses.

Today, at the 10th phase of the Cell Phone Recovery Distribution and Bank Account Unfreeze Program organized at his office, he handed over recovered cell phones and unfreeze letters to the victims. He also mentioned that since every bank account holder has their PAN and Aadhaar linked, there are many chances of cyber fraud, and therefore people should use their mobile phones carefully.

He clarified that “cyber arrest” does not exist anywhere in the country. He explained that in a hospital in the city, within an hour of a phone being stolen, an amount of ₹1,50,000 present in the phone was transferred to different accounts. Upon receiving the victim’s complaint, the cyber team immediately responded and successfully recovered both the amount and the phone.

Similarly, in his hometown, a cyber fraudster approached a person who sells vegetables from an auto and requested ₹1000 in cash, saying he would transfer the amount to the seller’s phone. After receiving the transfer, the seller gave the cash. Since the transfer was made through a hacked account, the seller’s bank account had to be frozen.

Today, 103 bank accounts were unfrozen, and the related documents were handed over to the victims. In this 10th phase program, phones that were stolen or lost within the jurisdictions of Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, and CCS were recovered and handed over to the victims.

DCP Crime Muthyam Reddy said that across the country, Karnataka ranks first in phone recovery, while Telangana stands in second place.

DCP Cyber Crime Sai Manohar advised people to use mobile phones only when necessary and not waste time watching reels. He said that when people lose their phones, not only do they suffer losses, but police also have to spend their valuable time on recovery efforts.

Sai Manohar also stated that 11,000 phones worth ₹30 crore have been recovered and returned to the victims.

Various police personnel under the Cyberabad Commissionerate participated in this program. The victims expressed their gratitude to all of them.
