HUBBALLI, Feb 28: In a moment forever etched in Indian cricket's golden annals, the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association's (JKCA) Senior Men's team scripted cricketing immortality today, clinching the Ranji Trophy with a commanding victory over mighty Karnataka in the final at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Ground.
This epochal feat has set the Union Territory ablaze with unbridled joy, uniting millions from Kashmir's snow-capped valleys to Jammu's rugged hills in a surging wave of pride. The players' grit, resilience, and unyielding spirit transformed improbable dreams into destiny, against all odds.
Adding to the triumph's luster, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, Brig. Anil Gupta (Member-Administration, JKCA), and other dignitaries graced the victory. Back in Jammu, an electrifying celebration unfolded at JKCA Headquarters, alive with the rhythmic beats of dhol and damaru. Former cricketers and the triumphant players joined in, soaking in the euphoric atmosphere.
It took 67 years—since J&K's Ranji debut in the 1959–60 season—for this maiden title. February 28, 2026, stands as a red-letter day, with the team securing the crown on first-innings lead after drawing the final.Led masterfully by Paras Dogra, J&K dismantled domestic giants Karnataka. After a top-class first-innings 584, they bowled Karnataka out for 293—pacer Aaqib Nabi starring with 5/54 in 93.3 overs. Resuming Day 5 at 186/4, Qamran Iqbal (160* from 94 overnight) and Sahil Lotra (101*) forged magnificent centuries, pushing J&K to 342/4 (overall lead: 633 runs) when captains shook hands post-lunch at 285/4.
