Top JeM Commander Killed in Gunfight in J&K’s Kishtwar

Jammu, February 22: A top commander of the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Sunday, official sources said.
According to sources, the gunfight broke out during a joint operation launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army’s 2 Para unit, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Passerkut area of Kishtwar.
During the fierce exchange of fire, one top JeM commander was neutralised. However, officials said that the body of the slain militant had not been retrieved immediately due to the ongoing operation. Formal identification and official confirmation are awaited.
In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said that troops, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel, established contact with terrorists in the general area of Passerkut, Kishtwar.
“Troops have cordoned off the area. Firefight is on. Operation continues,” the Corps said in its statement.
The operation was still underway at the time of filing this report.
