Assembly Elections 2026 Update News :: Assembly Elections Are Likely To Be Held In Four States And One Union Territory In April.

Visakhapatnam, February 18, AIMA MEDIA NEWS, : The Election Commission is preparing to hold elections to the assemblies of some more states in the country whose legislative assembly terms are ending. The Election Commission officials said on Tuesday that the schedule for the assembly elections in the states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and the Union Territory of Puducherry will be announced in mid-March. They said that the elections will be held in April.

It has been learned that the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will be held on different dates in April. Official sources said that the Central Election Commission will issue a notification for this in the second or third week of March. However, the term of the Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Bengal assemblies will end in May. Similarly, the term of the Puducherry assembly will also end by June 15. In this context, EC officials are already touring the states where elections will be held and reviewing the arrangements. In the last assembly elections, polling was held in Bengal in a maximum of eight phases. Similarly, elections were held in Assam in two phases. Elections were held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry in a single phase.

Meanwhile, it seems that the final announcement process regarding the electoral roll is also almost complete. Puducherry has already released the final voter list (on February 14). On the other hand, Tamil Nadu will also announce the final list soon. Similarly, the final list will be released in Kerala on February 21. The voter list will be announced in Bengal on February 28. In Assam, the final list was released on February 10 after the SIR process.

On the other hand, local political parties have requested the EC to hold the assembly elections in Assam in a single phase or a maximum of two phases. They have also appealed to the EC to fix the election dates keeping in mind the ' Bihu festival ' on April 14. Meanwhile, a full-fledged commission team led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is conducting a review of the election preparedness in Assam.
