
Opposition's No-Confidence Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla To Be Discussed On March 9
New Delhi, February 16, AIMA Media News: The discussion and subsequent voting on the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will be held immediately after the Lok Sabha convenes on March 9, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said. Speaking to the media, Rijiju said that the second phase of the Budget Session (March 9 to April 2) is going to be interesting and several key bills and one very important bill will be discussed and passed. We will bring some important bills. We will also introduce a key bill. We cannot reveal its details at the moment. We will bring the most important program in the second phase. We will get all the bills passed, he said. When asked whether the bill on holding simultaneous elections will be introduced at this stage, he said that the report of the parliamentary committee on the issue has not been finalized yet and hence no decision has been taken. Rijiju said that the Trinamool Congress did not sign the no-confidence motion against the Speaker. He said that many of the smaller parties are not in favour of obstructing the House, especially before the assembly elections.
Voting on the first day on March 9
The no-confidence motion against the Speaker will be debated in the Lok Sabha on March 9. As per the rules, it will be taken up on the first day. He said that the voting will be held after the debate. The Budget Session began on January 28 with the President's address to the Joint House. It adjourned on February 12. The Union Budget 2026 was presented on February 1. The sessions will resume on March 9 and conclude on April 2.
