Cultivation, Production and processing of Jack fruit for income generation .
As everybody knows jackfruit is cultivated and produced on a massive scale mostly in the tribal hilly area of Banspal and some parts of Telkoi and Harichandanpur block.
Throughout Kendujhar Dist Jackfruit trees are also found in every house and village for domestic consumption.
During Raj festival ripe Jack fruits are plentily available in the market by the tribals .
It is a tradition not only consuming ripe jack fruit but also offering a deity during Puja.
The jackfruit is rich in vitamin A and C, calcium ,iron and magnesium.
It controls blood sugar level. This is why it is in high demand in Calcutta.
The traders collect jackfruits from the remote tribal villages at a cheap rate to transport them to Calcutta.
As we know, raw Jack fruits are consumed as tasty vegetables. The fried jack fruit pieces are prepared in house and hotels.
Besides this, the jackfruit seeds are dried and mixed in curry.
In addition to this , the dried seeds are stored in homes for future consumption.
In view of the great demand of jackfruit , One-year ago , a Jack fruit processing plant was established in Kanjipani village which was opened by Local MLA Dr Fakir Mohan Naik for ,value addition by processing , producing jackfruit chips and modern packaging of jackfruit based products .
This newly established plant had generated new enthusiasm and motivation among the poor tribal famers with a hope of earn income and profit.by selling the Jack fruit .
But unfortunately the euphoria and celebration for establishing the plant has died down due to sudden closure of the plant .
As reported due to lack of technical feasibility the plant owner suspended the operation.
The local MLA and Dist Administration like industry ,and horticulture department must take suitable steps to provide technical , financial support for revival of the closed plant to make it economically viable.
This step will discourage and divert the tribal farmers from Poddu cultivation.
